The 10th year soil radioactivity measurement project is about to begin!
Thank you for your continued support for Hakaruwakaru Hiroba. Ten years have passed since the Fukushima nuclear accident on March 11, 2011.
Radioactive substances were scattered throughout the environment, polluting it. Worrying about the extent of the contamination of soil and food, we asked ourselves, “Is this food okay to eat ?” or “Is it safe for our children to play in this sandbox?” Consequently we launched this Hakaruwakaru Hiroba (Hachioji Citizens Radioactivity Measurement Room), supported by citizens from near and far.
And now, 10 years after the accident, we once again worry, “What has happened to the radioactive contamination of the soil ?” So, we have decided to start our “10th Year Soil Radioactivity Measurement Project.” Fortunately enough, the data has been stored in Hakaruwakaru Hiroba for 10 years. If you measure the soil now, you can see how the radioactivity of the soil has changed (or has not changed) since 2011.
If many of you join this project, we can get a wider view of the actual condition of pollution, by measuring the soil at as many points as possible.
So please participate.
If you want to participate in this project, please check the following:
⚫︎ Period: November 2020~December 2021
⚫︎ Measurement fee: Free.
⚫︎ We ask participants to bring in a sample soil, but please consult us if coming from far away.
⚫︎ We ask participants to take a 1000cc sample of soil. (1L milkpack full) .
⚫︎ Collect the soil digging down to a depth of 5 cm from the surface at the same location where it was previously collected .
⚫︎ If you have the previous measurement record, please bring it with you.
